A Short Tour of Queen's University

Starting at the iconic Grant Hall, built in 1905, now used for lectures, concerts, exams, and ceremonies, etc

Summerhill is the oldest building at Queen's, dating to 1839. Originally built as a private residence, it was bought by the university in 1853, at which point it could contain the whole university! Since the 1860s it has been the official residence of the Principal.

 On the southern side of the university, a strip of parkland lines the shore of Lake Ontario

  

 

Back on campus, Jackson Hall is where the engineering labs and offices (including mine) are located

 

Some of the university's distinctive brickwork.... Kingston is nicknamed the Limestone City.

Kingston Introduction

My first three days in Kingston have been spent running around after all manner of forms, numbers, courses, people, signatures, and most of all, places to live! Having got to the weekend in one piece, I am finally feeling like things might be under control: I seem to have found a nice apartment not far from the university, my supervisor appears to be happy with the courses I've chosen, and all the other practicalities are under control.

Unfortunately not much time, as yet, for exploring, but here is a photo of the county court house to keep you interested. More to come soon!
